I’m not a fan of all the junky ingredients in store bought dressing. There are also just as many bad ingredients in the packets you mix up. I can’t have MSG (monosodium glutamate) because it gives me headaches, so I came up with an alternative. This Ranch Dressing Mix is easy to whip up with pantry staples, lasts a long time in the cupboard, and blends up quickly anytime you need ranch dressing.
A FLEXIBLE RECIPE
This recipe is very flexible so feel free to change up the spice blend to your liking. Some people don’t like dill weed in their ranch. If that’s you, leave it out then. Prefer more garlic flavor? Add extra garlic powder.
You can also vary the quantities of mayonnaise and milk to suit your preferences. If you like a thinner ranch, add more milk or buttermilk. If you like your dressing thicker, use less milk. You can also add more ranch mix if you like a stronger flavored ranch dressing.
WAYS WE USE RANCH DRESSING MIX
This is a go-to staple in our house. We eat it on salads or serve it with carrots and celery. You can also add this ranch dressing mix to some sour cream to make a ranch dip for potato or tortilla chips. Our family uses this in any recipe that calls for a packet of ranch dressing. We often stir it into some oil and vinegar for a ranch flavored pasta salad and I also stir a spoonful into my potato salad. It works wonders to perk up tired vegetables. We even take some camping to sprinkle on our foil packet vegetables. One Tablespoon of the mix is equivalent to one packet of ranch dressing mix, but you can always use as much or as little as you like. One Tablespoon may not seem like the same amount as the packets, but the packets contain fillers whereas this recipe does not. (The first ingredient in a certain popular brand is maltodextrin.)
